Raising Minimum Wage

According to rocklandtimes.com, raising minimum wage would hurt the people it's trying to help. Raising the minimum wage by 10% would cause a drop in employment of 2.5% in young white men without an education. This number is even higher for young black men, almost 6.5%. The hike in minimum wage would price first time workers out of a job. This makes it expensive to hire first time workers.

From salary.com, a higher minimum wage would be a burden on small businesses. This would lead to the businesses not being able to higher more employees which in turn would keep unemployment up.

Also raising minimum wage wouldn't be the only thing to raise. The employers would have to raise prices to help cover the increased minimum wage. So even if the minimum wage is the higher it would cost more for food and other services. Basically we would be where we are now, and it is already hard to find the current minimum wages. This is apparent through the prices we pay now. (Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe Columist)

At this point in time I feel we shouldn't screw with minimum wage. Yeah, times are tough but raising the minimum wage would make them tougher. The politicians who swear that the higher wages would help are covering up the other pieces of information says rocklandtimes.com
